How You Can Find Free Music Online

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

There was no doubt that Napster among other P2P networks were under the gun of artists and bands everywhere for some time now, thanks to their ability to share free music with their users. Along with several of these digital pirates, LimeWire (one of the most popular P2P sites have shut shop as well) leaving users to the mercy of stores such as iTunes, Amazon and so on and so forth although their rates are nominal in comparison to buying an entire CD for just one song.

But there is one medium that has remained untouched until now, and even though they allow listeners to find free music online, perhaps the only reason why no one has objected to their broadcasts is because this is streaming music and not necessarily downloadable.

Yes, we’re talking about the numerous options of internet radio that is on offer these days be it pop, jazz, rock, news, talk radio and so on and so forth.

And it’s all free but not surprisingly so, as it continues to follow the same model that local radio stations follow by not charging their listeners anything but encouraging sponsors to pay for advertisements.

According to recent news, the sponsors for internet radio free stations are also on the rise, and are expected to increase their budget even more in the days to come. Perhaps the reason for this is because there are more listeners added to every site, and thanks to technology, the number of listeners on any online radio station can be tracked for the advertiser’s benefit.

But what does this mean for the listeners themselves?

It opens up a world of options in terms of music and talk radio to listen to but that focus on quality programming rather than the rubbish that is sometimes played on radio stations to keep all segments of their audience engaged.

Justin Timberlake, a New Creative Director at Myspace

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

Although keeping a small stake in its once-prized Myspace company, Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation has sold the rest to Specific Media, an advertising firm from Irvine, CA, in a deal that became public last week. As it’s been widely reported since, Specific Media paid $35 million for the somewhat user- and traffic-challenged social media site.

Moreover, another interesting deal went down just thirty minutes before the larger one was made public: Justin Timberlake signed on as a minority stakeholder of Myspace. Although the exact details are still unknown, Timberlake is expected to provide Myspace with some creative direction and for the task he has been assigned an office at Myspace and an immediate team of six.

It appears Specific Media and Timberlake want to rehabilitate the Myspace brand and brawn with a music refocusing. August 17 is the date that’s been given for a press conference that Myspace’s new management will hold. Timberlake will also be present. Perhaps more than a few of his adoring fans will attempt to make an appearance as well.

Myspace was first bought by New Corporation in 2005 for the monumental sum — compared to that of its most recent selling price — of $580 million. It was a purchase the company failed for years to make profitable, and its sale has been characterized as a “relief” for the Murdoch group.

Listening to The Radio

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

Listening to the radio is one favourite past times that people will not outgrow. Whether it is FM radio or am radio also called talk radio, people love to listen to the radio. Listening to the radio never gets old because there is always something new to listen to. People on the go listen to the radio to hear the news and be aware of current events and other things, and they can also listen to their favorite songs and find out which of their favorite songs made it to the top 40 list. People love listening to am radio or talk radio because of the topics most radio programs tackle. They talk about what is happening in the world and allow their listeners to react through a poll or by calling the station.

With the emergence of the internet, you can be sure that there are also online radio stations as well. Some radio stations have also decided to make their broadcast available over the internet to cater to the people who would rather listen on their laptops or MP3 players with built in radios. Before TV, the radio was the number 1 form of entertainment.

Even on the blogosphere there are radio shows, you can listen to your favourite bloggers on their very own blog radio show, where instead of writing down their thoughts, they say it on the radio. The radio has indeed been useful ever since it’s creation in the 1800’s. Although music videos are great to watch, music is still best heard over the radio.

A Note on The Emerging Market of Internet Radio

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Apart from the AM and FM radio programming that you can access, satellite and internet radio have already established their dominance in the market, commanding the largest number of users. Of course, this is not just about surfing the internet using a computer or laptop, but also being able to listen to quality content using your mobile devices.

But what makes radio so popular among its listeners is the quality content that is available from a large number of sources (like Pandora, for example) being offered for a small subscription fee.

However, since the advertising revenue model continues to find success when it comes to radio, finding stations where you can listen to internet radio free has become easier than ever. There are several websites that offer hours of radio programming ranging from lesser known genres of music, such as smooth, vocal, and contemporary jazz, world music, and New Age to popular programming for 80s and 90s music to the latest releases in the Top 40.

What does this mean for the listener in and outside the United States?

First, people who have never been able to access radio content before the emergence of the internet can now do so for a small fee or even for free over the internet. The radio stations understand that this is a global audience that they are catering to.

Finally, people in the United States have access to more radio content than ever and thus have more choices than ever for opting for entertainment that is just what they enjoy with a personalized experience.

Ashton Kutcher Coming Back to Television for “Two and a Half Men”

Friday, May 20th, 2011

It’s official: Demi Moore’s strapping young husband is set to be part of the “Two and a Half Men” cast. Everyone involved, with the notable exception of Charlie Sheen, of course, is very happy. The news came by way of Warner Bros. Television and CBS.

Kutcher promises to “work [his] ass off to entertain the hell out of people!”

How was Kutcher lured back into the living room small screens? With a “huge payday,” as is expected for any big name in Hollywood and, more increasingly, on Twitter (see Kim Kardashian). The Hollywood Reporter had the scoop last Thursday.

This is what Chuck Lorre, the creator and executive producer of “Two and a Half Men,” is saying about his new star: “We are so lucky to have someone as talented, joyful and just plain remarkable as Ashton joining our family.” He’s also gone on to say that if he were “any happier, it’d be illegal.”

One of the actors considered for the part Charlie Sheen lost after so many years had been Hugh Grant. In somewhat sad news for those wanting to see the once famously floppy-haired Grant on a regular weekly basis, the “About a Boy” and “American Dreamz” actor decided to pass on the offer.

Kutcher’s introduction has already been prepared and it’s expected to be to everyone’s liking — both the studio’s and the show’s audience.

Kutcher was last seen headlining with Natalie Portman on the big screen’s “No Strings Attached.” Joining the “Two and a Half Men” cast means Kutcher will be making his return to television performance for the first time since the ending of “That 70’s Show.” Behind the cameras, he worked as executive producer for “Punk’d” on MTV.

Kutcher’s younger fan base is expected to follow him to CBS and so far he’s managed to remain near the top of the Twitter charts with 6.7 million followers.

Kutcher played coy on the news Thursday. “I’m starting to become convinced that people put my name in articles just to improve their SEO or hoping I’ll tweet it,” he wrote on Twitter.

Why Listening to Web Radio is a Good Idea

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011

Listening to radio free has been the way it has always been for a long time now. However, the radio stations could only reach those who are within their state or country.

There was never the possibility that they could reach out to a global audience until now through the form of web radio. No matter what you like listening to – whether it is jazz, pop, rock, or even talk radio, you can find it all for free at specific sites over the internet that offer you quality programming to say the very least regardless of where you live in the world.

All you need for this is a broadband connection and a functioning computer to enjoy the kind of music you have always wanted to listen to.  And in doing so, you can connect and understand other cultures like never before.

Yes, the medium of television got there first but there is always the pleasure of engaging only your ears while you are doing something, and in most cases, this pertains to listening to music. The beauty of radio in the online version is that it also offers free online music that would otherwise be considered as illegal if it had to do with downloading music and so on and so forth.

All in all, it is not very hard to conclude that listening to music for free in the form of internet radio is, indeed, a step towards the future where we learn more about our physical neighbors and about people in countries we have never seen before.

Like 70s Music?

Friday, March 25th, 2011

There is always an era in music that has and always will remain with us as we move on from the teenage years into adulthood. Perhaps, it is the music that we have listened to when we were children even though we did not understand the songs all too well at that point.

1970

Most people who grew up listening to the 70s music can recall most of the songs that they enjoyed listening to in those days.  However, they may not have access to all of the songs that they used to listen to way back.

Now, there is a new way in which you can listen to your 70s music all over again.  This is in the form of a web radio that has a slew of stations that play anything from 80s music to every conceivable genre that is popular today. And the best part of it is that much like to a conventional radio, you can get to listen to these radio shows for absolutely free.  You just need an internet connection and a computer.

And since there are so many stations available from all parts of the world, you can pick and choose among radio stations that offer 90s music and music even from way back the 60s as well.  All in all, this means that you will have access to a larger variety of radio stations that offer quality programming.  You can now enjoy the best at no cost at all.

Reasons Why Radio Has Survived For So Long

Friday, January 7th, 2011

There’s no doubt that there is only one medium that has survived for the better part of the twentieth century, and that’s radio. Television was the next big thing and which took radio off the radar for some time.

And now of course, we have the internet that has rendered the medium of television obsolete is so short a time. But the best part of it all is that radio still continues to thrive in different forms.

While the reasons for this can be many, perhaps one of the biggest reasons is because radio will always be loved by those who enjoy listening to music without the visual inputs that music television brought in the 90s.

Another reason why radio has changed so well with the times is because of the reason that it will always be free, whether broadcasted over conventional radio stations or even offered as free online music over the internet.

And of course, if that’s not enough, there are radio stations (whether online or offline) that cater to different genres ranging from the eclectic to the common ones such as the top 40 hits of every week.

So, with a slew of reasons such as this, one can only surmise that radio will always stay for as long as people love just listening to music no matter what they’re doing – driving, cooking or just lying down doing nothing at all.
